Clone Wars Season 7, Episode 2: A Distant Echo

The second episode of the final season stayed with Captain Rex and the bad batch. I enjoy this crew and I like seeing them with Anakin. When we joined them, they are having a conversation about the possibility that the message from Echo is a trap. I thought the same thing at the end of the first episode. Funny how it took Padme to change my mind.

I will always think of this pose as baby cupping. The public signal that you have a little bun or two in the oven. I don’t think it was meant to tell Anakin at that time. I don’t remember how he find out in the final film (Padme told him after Anakin returned from saving Chancellor Palpatine and killing Count Dooku, ed.), but watching this episode, I want to say that he has an idea and that’s why he has so much on his mind.

Besides Clone Wars letting us know that Padme is with child in this scene, she drops some knowledge on us. She tells him that Captain Rex is his right hand and he trusts Anakin’s decisions. She wondered if Anakin could believe in Rex the same way that Rex believes in him. We may not find Echo, but we owed it to our comrade to give it a try.

General Kenobi making a remark to Anakin about Padme I take to mean that Anakin and Padme are a public secret.

They Gave Us Dragons

Did they know that we needed dragons? Seeing a pair of wings fly past the space craft of Anakin and company made me happy. Star Wars isn’t a franchise I identify with dragons, but when they appear I’m always for it. On this particular planet, they were the gods of a tribe of people that did not want to be part of the war.

They quickly tell Anakin and the boys which direction they should be heading and that’s the end of their storyline. I have to say that I’m really enjoying the graphics this season. Everything is so detailed and vivid, I forget sometimes that it’s a cartoon.

They found Echo. He isn’t in great shape and I don’t even know if he’s still alive or if it’s just his mind connected to the gadgets. It felt like the scene in Matrix when Neo wakes up in the amnio fluid. I’m glad that Captain Rex found his teammate and that there will be closure for him. I want to root for Echo, but I also don’t want to be disappointed if we have to say goodbye to him in the next episode.

Does anyone remember season five when clones that died talked about a desert and then they were at peace? I wonder what this is. Will we learn more about this in the next episode? I assumed that the final season would concentrate mainly on Anakin, but we’re spending a lot of time with the troops and rightly so since the show is named after them. Can’t wait to see where they take it next.
