Project Luminous: Guardians of Peace and Justice

For over a thousand generations, the Jedi Knights were guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic ~ Obi-Wan Kenobi

Lives were lived between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. What kept fans invested in the characters and the world of Star Wars were the books. Project Luminous introduced Charles Soule’s Star Wars: The High Republic. The first book in the series is called Light of the Jedi.

The Jedi of this era will resemble those of Arthurian Legend. The villains are being described as space Vikings called the Nhil. The time period is around 200 years before the prequels. This reminds us of Mantis and the powers of good and evil that Anakin learned about in the third season of Clone Wars.

One of the creators at the event, which took place at Disney Studios in Los Angeles tonight, referred to the books as a galactic expansion.

Something that the Star Wars Community has long talked about is breaking away from the good vs. evil model of the previous trilogies and adding more original content to a universe that definitely can be made as large as the imagination can allow.

With a new Star Wars era set 200 years before anything we have come to know, to an extent, it is like starting from the beginning.

Bobby Moynihan is leading a Q&A panel of the authors. The authors revealed that in the early stages they took a trip to Skywalker Ranch to discuss what they wanted to accomplish with this project. Kathleen Kennedy asked at the meeting, “What would scare a Jedi?”

Star Wars Community – we have a brand new world coming in the form of books and what we believe is the new films over the next decade will draw heavily from this text. What do you think about the High Republic era being the focus of new material? We’re excited and we hear Yoda may be a part of it as well. These Jedi will not resemble the Jedi we’ve known for the past four decades.

The new book by Soule will be released in August.

Cavan Scott is writing a Marvel ongoing series, Star Wars The High Republic. It’s set on a space station called “Starlight Beacon”.

I watched Return of the Jedi on the big screen and have been a fan since. In 1998, I crashed a media event and stole one of the signs as a memento that I was there - George Lucas saw me do it.
