Today, the last episode of The Mandalorian‘s second season came out on Disney+. After the credits there was a post-credits scene in which The Book of Boba Fett got announced for the end of next year.
It is not yet clear whether The Book of Boba Fett is a standalone series or whether it will be the “next chapter” of The Mandalorian. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy announced that the latter would be released on Disney+ by Christmas 2021.
According to our colleagues over at StarWarsNewsnet.com, The Book of Boba Fett is a separate project from The Mandalorian’s third season, which will enter production this month. Does this mean that we will get to see two series at the same time? Or will Boba’s series run for a few episodes, after which we will continue straight into The Mandalorian season 3? Or perhaps The Book of Boba Fett is the actual season 3 of The Mandalorian after all and will we have to wait a little longer for the continuation of Din Djarin’s story? At the time of writing, no official announcement has been published on StarWars.com.
So much is unclear for the time being; all we know for sure is that The Book of Boba Fett will be released on Disney+ somewhere around Christmas 2021, and that Kathleen Kennedy announced that the next chapter of The Mandalorian will also be coming out somewhere around Christmas 2021. It seems logical to think that these are one the same projects (especially now that we know that Boba Fett is also a Mandalorian, so he too could be the titular character of the series).
The series’ announcement comes a day after the death of original Boba Fett actor Jeremy Bulloch. Personally, I thought the last shot of this episode in particular was a nice tribute to the character and thus also to Bulloch, although there was no mention of his death in the credits. Perhaps Disney will add this later.
